• Susan Williams, Employment National Wagga manager, Paul Morgan, Brian Archer and member for Riverina Kay Hull were among those attending the Riverina Job Challenge launch at the Garden Court Restaurant.

• Wagga golfer, John Byrne, hit two hole in ones in the same week at the Wagga Country Golf Club.

• Betty O’Hehir and Ollie Muir are pictured cutting the cake at the Ladysmith Memorial Hall’s 75th anniversary celebrations.

• Chinese language teacher, Sally Lean, will leave Wagga this week to teach in Guangzhou, China for two years.

• Sacred Heart and Mater Dei primary schools are marking their 40th and 10th Birthdays while parish priest, Fr Plunkett is also celebrating the 45th anniversary of his ordination.

• Wagga City Council’s director of community services, John Craig said that work has started on extensions to the Wagga senior citizens centre in Tarcutta Street to meet increasing requirements for usage of the centre.

• Mission Australia services manager – Riverina, Geoff Hoad said that more than 50 people sleep in Wagga Streets every night, many of them youths.

• Australian historian, Bill Gamage, from the Australian National University launched his latest work, a special edition on rural and regional history, at the Civic Centre with guest editors, Lyn Gorman and Don Boadle from Charles Sturt University.

• Chris McDevitt, sales manager at Hartwig’s trucks has been named as Western Star Trucks’ dealer employee of the year.

• Wagga RSL Club employees raised $12,500 from their payroll deductions which was presented this week to the radiotherapy appeal chairman, Daryl Maguire.

• The Australian Army Band Kapooka has returned from an inspiring tour of duty to East Timor.

• Fitzpatrick’s Real Estate is celebrating its 50th Anniversary.

• South Wagga Public School assistant principal, Barry Conway is retiring after 39 years in the profession.

• Enrolled nurse, Trish Ward, was presented with a certificate marking her 25 years’ service to the Wagga Blood Bank.

• The final piece of artwork in Wagga’s main street, named The Forest Seat has been installed on the corner of Baylis and Morgan Street.
• About 200 local government employees from across New South Wales are attending a Water Supply and Resources Conference in Wagga this week.
• The Greater Murray Area Health Service is undertaking a major campaign to recruit nursing professionals to the region.

• State member for Wagga, Mr Wal Fife announced he would seek Liberal Party endorsement for the Federal seat of Farrer.


• Meanwhile, Labor candidates Ald Pat Brassil and Mr Kevin Esler will face a pre-selection ballot on August 23.

• Mr C S Krummel, Wagga City Gasworks Engineer and Manager, is requesting all citizens of Wagga to sign and post to the Premier of New South Wales a letter requesting the supply of natural gas to Wagga.

• Rava’s which began in 1925 when Mick Rava purchased the farm produce and machinery store in Grong Grong is now celebrating its 50th anniversary.

• Jaycees president Norm Byng is pictured placing the chain of office around the neck of incoming president, Mr Graeme Mogridge.

• South Wagga Apex, outgoing president, Graham Negline presented the club’s charter to new president, Geoff Wade watched by former club president and District Governor, Mike Chamberlain.

• Guider, Mrs Lyn Graham, Guide Sally Henderson and Brownie Roslyn Rynehart are pictured commemorating Guide Week by planting trees in Jaycees Park.

• Col McPherson is advertising a mobile butchery and complete on the Farm Butchering Service.

• Wagga City Council superintendent of parks and gardens, Tom Wood appealed to people with motorcycles not to use bike trails in the Willans Hill area.

• Miss Kooringal High School, Michelle Farrah, was crowned at a school social this week.
• The North Wagga Residents Association has agreed with Wagga City Council’s plan to send a model and submission to the Water Conservation and Irrigation Commission for a proposed levee bank which would make North Wagga completely flood free.
• President of Wagga’s Community Aid Abroad, Andrew Read, said their Walk Against Want raised more than $5000 from a walkathon covering 30 kilometres which attracted about 400 entrants.
• Sister McFadven sister in charge of the Wagga Blood bank reported that 3,109 litres of blood had been given during the past year.
• President of the Wagga branch of Red Cross, Mrs S Hutchinson was re-elected at their Annual General Meeting with Mrs S Pither and Mrs L Johnston elected as vice presidents.
• It was announced that Miss Wagga 1975-76 would be crowned at a Mayoral Ball at the Plaza Theatre on 1st December.
• Two recent functions held by the Wagga Quota Club raised almost $1000 for the Red Shield Appeal.
• Over 100 shooters from N.S.W., Victoria and the A.C.T. are competing in the Murrumbidgee Valley Pistol shooting competition at the Wagga Pistol Club.
