- Mavis Taber celebrated her 80th birthday at the Wagga Office of Better Hearing Australia assisted by Better Hearing Australia president, Gordon Mowbray.

- Hewitt Whyman has been appointed to the AFL (NSW-ACT) Commission southern region council, the supreme body for Australian Football in Southern NSW.

- Woolworths chief executive, Roger Corbett visited Wagga addressing a Wagga Chamber of Commerce luncheon and using the occasion to answer criticism levelled at Woolworths in the wake of the week-old discount war on milk prices.

- 84-year-old, Yerong Creek resident, Stan Galvin, a life member of the Yerong Creek RSL and its secretary-treasurer since 1946 had a park in the town named after him in a ceremony attended by about 50 people including Federal Member for Riverina, Kay Hull and Lockhart Mayor, Peter Yates.

- Ted and Dorothy Palmer of Euberta celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Magpies Nest restaurant.

- Mitchell Bowen, Karen Deane, Andrew Taylor and Rachel Eyles from Kooringal High School won the Year 8 division of the recent Sunrice Mathematics Challenge Day.

- Craig Ambler won the Junee to Wagga marathon at Wagga Beach.

- The Rock Memorial Bowling Club is celebrating its 50th birthday.

- Turvey Park Ladies Auxiliary now has its own room within the Pavilion at Maher Oval at the Australian Rules Football Club with a plaque recognising the contribution of the Auxiliary unveiled by Irene Nye who was Turvey Park Ladies Auxiliary president for 35 years between 1956 and 1990.

- Daily Advertiser managing editor, Graham Gorrel announced Charlie Atkinson as the winner of the Daily Advertise employee of the Year award.

- Wagga’s all-conquering Southern Riverina pennant snooker team, Steve Oakman, Iain Wilford, Stan Raczkowski, Steve Rea and captain Mark McIntyre are pictured after “chalking up” their seventh successive victory at Wagga Commercial Club.

- Town House Motor Inn manager, Stephen Fitzgerald is preparing to present the Townhouse’s 14th cabaret performance.
- Wagga City Council won the prestigious A R Bluett award which honours the N.S.W. Council which has achieved the greatest relative progress in the 12 months ending June 30, 1999. The win was a rare feat making it one of only a handful of Councils to have won the award twice, having also won the award in 1963.
- Telstra has confirmed that their Wagga office will close later this year after the seven employees of the Wagga Office were offered redundancy packages by email.

- President, Arthur Dixon said that the Wagga Leagues Club made a net profit of $219,000 with turnover exceeding $2 million and membership increasing to 7412 for the 1974-75 year.

- The Wagga Venturer Scout group now has its own bus which will be used to take the group on canoeing, skiing and cave trips.

- Wagga City Council repair gang members, Peter McInerney and Albert Ball are pictured filling potholes in Edward Street caused by recent wet weather.

- Mrs Julie Lamont of Harefield is pictured admiring a fine example of faceted quartz crystal at the Wagga Lapidary Club’s exhibition on display at the Wagga City Council Chambers.

- Knights Meats Wholesale, near the Hampden bridge are selling Topside Steak for 73 cents per lb, Scotch Fillets for 95 cents per lb and Minced Steak for 35 cents per lb with Cottees 2kg beans, sliced or crosscut for $1.40.

- Bruce Oakes Jeweller has an “early Christmas” special with 20% off world famous Seiko watches.

- Huthwaites are selling Holeproof, ”Secret Support” pantihose, two pairs for $3.
- Wagga Police Citizens Boy’s Club has formed a cycling club with coaches including Barry O’Hagen, Herb Longhurst, Dave Tucker, Ron Bowditch and Dave Braid.
- Wagga Rescue Club is planning a Fete to relieve its strained financial situation after last years floods cost the club more than $1000 for repairs, maintenance and fuel.
- Wagga’s first Trash and Treasure Market conducted by nine Miss Wagga entrants was officially opened at the Lamson Paragon car park by the Mayor, Ald Dick Gorman, attracting an estimated 750 people and grossing over $1000.
- Alderman Patricia Clark will be a delegate to the Internation Women’s Year “Women and Politics” Conference in Canberra.
- A 19-year-old Wagga man was sentenced to six months jail for driving with more than the prescribed amount of alcohol in his blood.
- Two State records highlighted shooting at the Murrumbidgee Valley Pistol championships at the Hammond Avenue range of the Wagga Pistol Club.
- A meeting of Wagga musicians considered setting fees in the vicinity of $40 per player per night for Wagga bands next year.
- Southern Riverina County Council increased electricity charges by 10% taking the average residential bill from $25.00 to $27.50.
- The Collingullie Hall benefited by $600 from the proceeds of the recent “Back to Collingullie” celebrations.
- Wal Fife was confirmed as the only candidate for Liberal Party endorsement in the Federal seat of Farrer.
