- The 1.3-metre-thick floor of the Riverina Radiotherapy Unit is underway with the pouring of concrete this week.

- Members of Wagga’s Central Business District committee, chaired by Bob Quarmby, spent almost two hours looking at ways to improve Baylis Street.

- Six-year-old Aaron McCurdy is pictured admiring some model trains at the Wagga Society of Model Engineers sale day at the Botanic Gardens.

- Darren Poulos, manager of South Wagga Markets, a family business established some four years ago, described the proximity of local suppliers as a reason for superior produce.

- Wagga City Council’s new e-Commerce Committee comprises 32 members, six of whom, Scott Bradley, Gary Wells, Colin Duff, Peter Dale, Tom Watson and Leon Baronet are pictured together outside the Council’s administrative building.

- Wagga’s two Toastmasters clubs held a joint information evening with guest speaker, Miss Wagga, Sally Peacock, speaking on the International Year of the Volunteer.

- The sale of Wagga’s Huthwaite Centre was completed.

- The Laminex factory at the Bomen Industrial Estate has been sold with a major organic recycling business to start operations at the site by the end of the year.

- Brian Lawrence Sports, which has been on the market for several weeks, closed its doors this week, after operating in the city for 58 years.

- The Wagga branch of the Ulysses Motorcycle Club donated almost $400 to the Kurrajong Early Intervention Centre.

- Sarah Christie, 11, is pictured with her mum, Sue, touching up her makeup, in preparation for the regional heat of Model Quest 2001.

- Wagga cyclists, Thomas Palmer, Michelle Fearne and Cameron Hope have all won NSW cyclist of the year awards.

- Turvey Park’s Ben Harper will chalk up his 50th senior game with the Bulldogs against Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong this week.

- Wagga Tigers number one ticket holder, Ron Harris, is pictured with club secretary John Smith, where he will watch his favourite side play Mangoplah-Cookardinia, United-Eastlakes this week.

- Emily Everett is pictured offering her grandmother, Jan Smith, a scone at Lake Albert Public Schools grandparent day.

- Wagga’s open representative netball team is participating in the State Netball Championships in Newcastle this week.
- A former president of the Lockhart Shire Council, Percival James Amery, 79, passed away at his Wagga home this week.
- Prime newsrooms in Wagga and Albury survived a day of significant cutbacks elsewhere in the Prime network.

- Mrs Doreen Hutchinson and Mr Ernest (Charlie) Smith were awarded the British Empire Medal in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

- Thirty representatives of Wodonga and Wangaratta councils, including wives, visited Wagga to meet with representatives of Wagga City Council and inspect certain facets of the city’s administration.

- Central Wagga Apex Club is staging its biggest service activity yet, a “Monster Market Fair” with proceeds to aid micro-surgery, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Waratah Industries and Central Wagga Apex funds.

- A large audience is expected at the RSL Club for an exhibition series to be played by the two greats of snooker and billiards, Eddie Charlton and Rex Williams.

- Marcella Hempez, lecturer in woven textiles at the Riverina College of Advanced Education, is pictured demonstrating one of the weaving machines she uses to members of the Wagga Handspinners and Handweavers Guild.

- Researchers, Andrew Leys and Eric Cuthbertson, at the Wagga Agricultural Research Institute, have discovered that the deep-rooted summer growing weed, silverleaf nightshade, was potentially more serious than skeleton weed.

- Don Smith Real Estate is advertising a modern, near-new, three-bedroom brick veneer home for $36,500.

- The first Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star to be established in Wagga was instituted at the Wagga Masonic Hall, followed by a celebration banquet.

- Robyn Dubedat, one of Wagga’s top table tennis players, is assisting in the coaching of girls at the Police Boys Club.

- Officials, including Wal Blake, Stan Sadlier, Bill Frendin and Sgt. Ian Mortimer are pictured following a bowler’s luncheon at the Wagga Police Boys Club, where 394 bowlers sat down at one sitting for a midday meal.

- Seventy delegates attended a Flood Warning System Conference in Wagga.

- Fifteen debutantes were presented to Bishop Carroll and the matron of the ball, Mrs Shirley Gorman, at the first Ashmont – San Isadore debutante ball held at the Wagga Leagues Club.

- More than 200 entries have been received for the ninth annual June rally of the Wagga Vintage and Veteran Motor Club.

- Well-known Wagga publican, Harold Goodwin of Romano’s and his wife Cynthia celebrated their Silver Wedding Anniversary in Romano’s Chandelier Room.
- A combined Riverina side will be journeying to Melbourne again this season to play in the Little League competition.
- The Boundaries Commission is undertaking a financial survey to determine the economic viability of proposals to amalgamate some local government areas in the district.
- Heavy fog in Wagga, Narrandera and Griffith has closed airports and played havoc with airline schedules.
- Wagga Model Boat Club members are hosting visitors from Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Bendigo and Tatura Clubs firstly at the Civic theatre as part of the Apex Fete and later at the Bomen Lagoon.
