- Wagga Mayor, Kevin Wales, made the extraordinary admission that the Civic Theatre’s recent cost blowout was “just the beginning”, adding that he feared there were more council cost overruns to come.
- President of the Wagga Ratepayers and Citizens Association, Kerry Pascoe, applauded the decision of Council to proceed with an independent inquiry into recent cost overruns.
- After more than ten years of business under Geoff McGilvray, well-known real estate agency Nationwide McGilvray has been sold to Kerry Flinn and Simon Freemantle.
- Licensing, security and behaviour issues are expected to be discussed at a meeting between Wagga crime manager Grahame Winson and licensing Sergeant Garry Bowden with Victoria Hotel management as part of a continuing consultation process with the hotel.
- Wagga’s Livestock Marketing Centre sold $39.7 million more worth of stock last financial year than the previous financial year, including a total of 1,444,061 sheep.
- A retirement dinner was held at the Commercial Club for Max Wallis after 45 years working with Australian Pharmaceutical Industries, 37 of which were as their Wagga Branch manager.
- Wagga schoolboys Tyler Pomeroy, Alex Hunt and Nicholas Muir are pictured at Airbourne Gymnastics following a spectacular gold medal-winning spree at the New South Wales Country Gymnastics Championships at Port Macquarie.
- Senior Trinity High School captain Matt Rava is pictured surrounded by teammates as he displays the Sun Country Cup which Trinity won this week in Melbourne.
- Vice-president of the Wagga Society of Model Engineers, John Lennon, is pictured with new work done to the model railway at the Botanic Gardens with the help of Mission Employment and work for the dole participants.
- Almost 1500 students were treated to an unforgettable experience when musicians from the Sydney Symphony’s Education Program made a brief visit to Wagga.
- Squadron Leader David Lavicka is pictured preparing for the 61st Anniversary of Royal Australian Air Force Base Forest Hill.
- Students and staff from Riverina Institute of TAFE’s 17 campuses attended the Institute’s ninth annual awards at the Garden Court Restaurant.
- Wagga tenpin bowler Greg Sleaman captured the Wagga Open Masters final on Sunday.
- Students from Forest Hill and Ladysmith schools, including Wendy Nutt and Emma Brown, planted trees near the Ladysmith railway station as part of National Tree Day.

- Wagga Tennis Association President, Jim Elphick, publicity officer, Mr Bob Quarmby and member for Wagga, Joe Schipp inspected fourteen new hardcourt tennis courts within the Bolton Park sporting complex which are expected to be completed by the end of next month and ready for the annual open tournament in October.
- A return trip to San Francisco for the famous “Bay to Breakers Run” will be the major prize in this year’s Daily Advertiser – 2WG City to Lake Fun Run on October 9.
- The Baptist Homes Trust will receive an estimated $911,904 for construction of a 68-bed hostel in Wagga, and the 2WG Old Peoples Homes Trust has been allocated $260,000 towards their new 20-bed nursing home as projects approved by the Commonwealth Government.
- Chief Health Surveyor, Mr W B Hale said that work will begin immediately on several significant improvements at the Wagga Tourist caravan park with an estimated cost of $11916.
- The Bridge Club of Wagga was officially formed with inaugural president Mr A C Sundstrom.
- Mr M E Beatton, Principal of Wagga High School, has been elected president of the Riverina Association for Educational Administration.
- Wagga Jaycees president is pictured presenting a cheque for $1000 to Sister Nola representing Calvary Hospital.
- The Ladysmith Red Cross Branch raised $968 this year.
- Deputy Mayor, Ald Allen, has criticised the facilities currently available to players, officials and spectators at the Red Hill sporting grounds.
- The July meeting of the Wagga Heather Club Women’s Auxiliary was held in the flower room at St Andrew’s Church with twenty members present.
- Kooringal Primary School principal, Geoff Potter, presented special badges to Mr and Mrs Tony Howarth and Mr & Mrs Ewen McArthur as a token of appreciation for ten years’ outstanding service to the school’s Parents and Citizens Association.
- At the annual changeover dinner of the Wagga Business and Professional Women’s Club, new president Mrs Faith Butt was presented with an inscribed gong by Miss Edna Hazelwood, who was deputising for retiring president, Mrs Helen Frisby.
- Miss Janette Webb of Evans Street celebrated her 21st birthday with family and friends at the Wagga City Golf Club.
- To celebrate trading in the Wagga area for seventy years as well as opening a new store at Ashmont, Huthwaites Ashmont store manager, Mr Noel Stoyles, presented $300 worth of books to Ashmont Public School.
- The 7th Wagga Scout and Cub Group is holding a seven-course Chinese dinner at the Ko Wah Restaurant to raise funds for equipment.
