• Wagga City Council agreed to a radical restructure proposed by General Manager, Graeme Faulkner, with the number of directorates reduced from six to four and managers cut from 32 to 18.

• Despite many skateboarders continuing to ride along Baylis Street’s footpath after being banned by Council, there are no plans to confiscate the wheeled craft.

• Radio Station FM107.1 2AAA celebrated 20 years of broadcasting with a dinner at the Wagga RSL Club.

• A major overhaul of the Greater Murray Area Health Service has been called for by Opposition spokeswoman for health, Jillian Skinner.

• A site 1.8 kilometres south of Jubilee Park has been nominated as ideal for the development of David Yap’s idea for a “City of a Million Roses”.

• Dawn Williams, well known as a community radio volunteer as well as for her contributions to the Wagga Eisteddfod and the Wagga Basketball Association, has died after a short illness.

•  Following a meeting with local police, Victoria Hotel licensee Nicholas Turner and business partner Andrew Irvine have announced several new measures, including additional security guards and video surveillance at the hotel as well as improved access to taxis for patrons.

• William McGregor and Scott Campbell are pictured displaying the trophies they collected at the Australian Junior Motocross titles at Sale, Victoria.

• Rabina and Avtar Singh, owners of the Indian Tandoori Tavern, were recognised at the Restaurant and Catering New South Wales, southern region awards.

• More than 120 people attended the Riverina Vocational Training Awards in Wagga, which saw five trainees and ten apprentices selected from over 3500 in the southern region competing for the top awards.

• Juliann Trood, Eamonn Purcell, Steven Howe, Steen Bagger, Craig Elphick and Phil Hoey are pictured enjoying Jeans for Genes Day at the Wagga Ambulance Station.
• Wagga’s Julie O’Brien has started a new business dealing in vocational guidance and training services.

• 41-year-old Warren Sykes will line up with Turvey Park this weekend for his 400^th senior game.

• Five members of the Wagga Crow Club, including Gwen Lugton, Marie O’Regan, Cyril and Victoria Absolum, were presented with life membership of the club.

• Osborne Football Club celebrated its centenary with Tony Lockett as guest speaker at a function held at the Osborne Recreation Reserve.

50 Years Ago

• Wagga’s Mayor, Ald Dick Gorman criticised the Federal Government for reducing funding for technical education.

• Winds reaching speeds of up to 74 k.p.h. swept the Riverina, bringing dust, rain, hail and even snow with them. In Batlow, the Group 13 Rugby League fixture between Batlow and Tarcutta was stopped about 20 minutes before the end when light snow, hail and heavy rain made play impossible.

• City Librarian, Duncan Marshall, said that the Wagga City Library is having an amnesty on overdue articles for ten days to encourage people to return overdue items.

• The Wagga Bankers’ Annual Charity Golf Tournament was held on this week’s Bank Holiday.

• The Sisters of the Little Company of Mary will celebrate the 50^th anniversary of their arrival this month.

• Central Wagga Lions Club held its first changeover dinner with outgoing president, Allan Helyar, presenting the club’s charter to the new president, Mr Brian Galvin.

• About 40 meat inspectors from a wide area of the Riverina and southern N.S.W. attended the southern N.S.W. regional meat inspectors conference at the Wagga Leagues Club.

• Seventy players took part in the Don Jones Tyre Service Riverina Junior Table Tennis tournament held at the Wagga Police Boys’ Club.

• More than 130 teams have nominated for the Riverina schoolboys Rugby League football carnival at Junee this Saturday.

• Over 150 people attended the Wagga Motorcycle Sports Club’s annual trophy presentation evening at the Lake Albert Hall.

• Leading orienteer, Rod Dominish, has prepared a special “get fit” program for the Daily Advertiser-2WG City to Lake Run on October 9.

• Wagga City Council has agreed to allow the Toy Library for Handicapped Persons in the Riverina to use two rooms of the Wollundry Gallery for their library.

• Blakes Real Estate are advertising a three-bedroom weatherboard home at Turvey Park for quick sale at 19,000.

• Six new members were welcomed at the annual meeting of the Wagga branch of the R.S.P.C.A., at which Mrs D Wilkes was elected President, and Mr W Sly and Mr J Peverill were elected vice-presidents.

• Wagga Boat Club had a net profit of $11,000 for the recently completed financial year. Grant Jarick was elected as Commodore, succeeding retiring Commodore Ian Measday.

• Wagga Fire Brigade is celebrating its 50^th anniversary occupying its present headquarters in The Esplanade.

• The Wagga Chamber of Commerce is investigating reports that employers have been hiring striking workers from the Wagga City Meat Processing Plant.
