State Library of NSW creating the largest collection of digitised newspapers in Australia

State_Library_NSW_1Over 4.5 million pages of historical newspapers are now fully searchable online as part of the State Library of NSW’s major initiative funded by the NSW State Government to fast track the digitisation of its entire newspaper collection. Newspapers now digitised include the Wagga Daily Advertiser from 1868 until 1954 and the Wagga Express from 1858 until 1919.

This has been made possible by additional significant local fundraising led by the Wagga Wagga and District Historical Society working closely with the Member for Riverina, Michael McCormack and major donors who have included, Charles Sturt University, Wagga City Library, the Wagga RSL Club, Daily Advertiser, Friends of the Wagga City Library and the Wagga and District Family History Society as well as several private donations.

Local and global audiences now have free online access to over 250 NSW newspaper titles including almost 50 titles in South West New South Wales. Additional issues are being digitised and made available every week on the Trove Site www.trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper
