President Peter Gissing and Past President Geoff Burch present Sherry Morris with Life Membership of the Wagga Wagga and District Historical Society.
A very special presentation was made this evening at a combined meeting of the Wagga Wagga and District Historical Society and the Wagga Wagga and District Family History Society.
Honorary Life Membership of the Wagga Wagga and District Historical Society was awarded to Sherry Morris.
Sherry’s contribution to the Society over a period of more than twenty five years has included serving on the management committee in a variety of roles and editing and producing the newsletter for some twenty two years within that period.
In a broader context she has been the most prolific and influential author of local and regional histories within our region. She has published more than thirty books, including the substantial Wagga Wagga: A History, for which she was awarded the NSW Premiers’ Award in 2000.
Sherry has published over a hundred and fifty newspaper articles, and has promoted local history both on radio and through presentations to local groups.
Sherry has been a strong supporter of the Museum of the Riverina, as it is now known, both before and after the leasing of the museum to the Wagga Wagga City Council.
