A THRILLING aerobatic display over central Wagga by a Roulettes PC-9 on Friday set the scene for an even more exciting flyover on Saturday during a Freedom of the City parade along Baylis Street to mark the 75th anniversary of RAAF Base Wagga.

RAAF 75th Anniversary this weekend
AS RAAF Base Wagga prepares to celebrate its 75th anniversary at the weekend, eyes are also looking back at the contribution the defence force base has made to the city over many years.

Our old photo this week shows Fitzmaurice Street looking towards Johnston Street in the 1930’s. The large bank building in the centre has survived and is now Boyce Accountants however many of the other buildings have been lost or substantially altered.

John Peter emigrated from Scotland in 1832, and by 1839 he had already acquired the runs that were to later become known as Toganmain, Borambola and Pulletop. When he married the widow Mary Bourke in 1837, the Gumly Gumly run was also attained under his name.

Our old photo this week shows the Company Bridge which was opened across the Murrumbidgee River at Wagga Wagga in 1862. It lasted with difficulties until the Hampden Bridge was opened in 1895 after which it was demolished.
