John Peter emigrated from Scotland in 1832, and by 1839 he had already acquired the runs that were to later become known as Toganmain, Borambola and Pulletop. When he married the widow Mary Bourke in 1837, the Gumly Gumly run was also attained under his name.

Our old photo this week shows the Company Bridge which was opened across the Murrumbidgee River at Wagga Wagga in 1862. It lasted with difficulties until the Hampden Bridge was opened in 1895 after which it was demolished.

Our photo from the past this week is Baylis Street in the early 1900’s looking south. Alleyne Farr operated a chemist on the corner of Morrow and Baylis streets (on the far right) from 1902 until 1907. Also visible on the left is the Advance Australia Hotel and the Bushman’s Home.
