If you had visited the Australian War Memorial late last year, you might have encountered a mechanical trolley with a camera affixed to the top whizzing around the site, or perhaps seen someone wandering around with a backpack that looked suspiciously like the lovechild of C-3PO and R2-D2.
But it wasn’t a security scare, nor was there a sci-fi film being shot in Canberra. The futuristic contraptions belonged to a team of visiting experts from Google, using the same Street View technology that is used in Google Maps and Google Earth to document the building in film.
