Wagga City Council advises that following the advice of its Heritage Consultant reconstruction work is now underway to repair the sign following substantial white ant damage.The work is expected to be finished in about three weeks.
The sign was first erected in 1939 by Council with the assistance of Wagga Apex Club.
Apexian Mervyn Wetten was responsible for the signage.
Wetten Signs was established in Wagga in 1913 and many members will be familiar with Mervyn who traded in Wagga for many years. Des Gibbs who trades as Des Gibbs Signs in Chaston Street with his son, Carl was apprenticed to Mervyn and carried on the business after Mervyn.
