- A homeless man was bashed to death, placed in a dumpster and set alight in Barrand Street.

- Annie Aichroy, a nurse in the oncology and palliative care section at Wagga Base Hospital and The Forrest Centre has received a commendation from the NSW Cancer Council for her commitment to cancer treatment.

- Wagga City Rugby Union Club secretary, Mike Fraunfelder was congratulated by President Dave Mundy after receiving life membership during the Boiled Lollies 50th anniversary celebrations on Saturday night.

- Deacon Rod Letchford and Monsignor Michael Burgess blessed the new addition to the Loretto Home of Compassion, the Lennon Wing, during its official opening.

- Scout Job month kicked off with Forest Hill Scout members delivering almost 8000 new telephone books in the Tolland, Turvey Park and North Wagga areas.

- Jeff Gestier has sold his main MacDonalds restaurant and the popular McCafe in Forsyth Street and will leave Wagga to take charge of the MacDonald’s store in Rockdale.

- John and Jane Mueller purchased a limited-edition Don Bradman print during The Haven’s charity auction at the Wagga RSL Club.

- Widely respected business executive Geoff Breust has taken on a new and challenging role as general manager of Finemores Liquid Transport Division.

- Former Wagga man Geoff Dixon has been appointed to the board of directors of Qantas.

- Wagga and District Historical Society has published a book written by Sherry Morris and Phyllis de Jersey titled Wagga Wagga Grammar School 1915-1946.

- Julie Hoy, Wayne Evans and Henry Gardiner were among those attending a meeting to consider the formation of a Friends of SouthCare chapter to support the SouthCare aeromedical Rescue Service which has now been operation in the area for 19 months.

- Tolland Squash player, Simon Carruthers, will represent Australia in three different countries, New Zealand, Italy and England this year.

- Award winners at Cougars baseball club presentation night included Allan Johnson, Luke Martin, Ben Wishart, Leigh Wooden, Kiel Wishart, Kyle Burgess, Adrian Martin, Pauline Fulmer, Samuel Gardner, Dayne Wishart, Guy Cornwall, Christopher Spain and Matthew Nosworthy.

- Jan Farndale was among those assisting at the Lifeline Book Fair held at the Masonic Hall.
- Chairman of Tourism Wagga Michael Maher said that the high number of visitors to Wagga over the Easter long weekend highlighted the need for expansion to the cities Visitors Centre.

- James Barnes meat processing factory was officially opened by the Minister for Decentralisation and Development, Mr J C Bruxner.

- Minister for Transport and Member for Wagga Wal Fife advised Wagga City Council of an additional allocation of $82,000 available for roadworks undertaken before the end of next month.

- Miss Wagga, Bronwyn Lewis, attended a Civic Farewell before leaving for the first stage of her official visit to Germany accompanied by her mother Mrs Joyce Lewis.

- Wes Russell announced that he has commenced business as a Real Estate Agent located at 6 Gurwood Street.

- Four-year-old gelding Arctic Island and leading Sydney lightweight jockey Bruce McClune combined to win this years $7000 Wagga Gold Cup.

- Ross Lawrence was judged the best dressed man at the Wagga Gold Cup with Lloyd Rynehart and Miss Cheryl Moore judged as best dressed younger man and younger woman.

- Mrs Mary Ryder is pictured making final preparations for an attractive display to feature at this weeks Gold Cup dinner dance.

- After a disappointing first starling shoot, strategy and patience saw 15 shooters bring down about 600 starlings from Wagga’s plane trees.

- The Wagga branch of the Field and Game Association is launching a wild duck conservation program.

- Mr & Mrs Stan Pratt, their daughter Joanne and their son Christopher were among the large crowd attending the Wagga Catholic Debutante Ball at the Plaza Ballroom.

- Thirty guests attended the Golden Wedding Anniversary of Mr and Mrs Stephen Sheahan at their home in Urana Street.
