- Wagga City Councillor, Pat Brassil and former councillor, Mary Kidson were presented with special awards representing their long service to local government.

- Wagga Police Inspector, Frank Goodyer has been appointed as a venue commander within the New South Wales Police security force at the Sydney Olympics.

- After a veterinary career spanning 45 years and treating everything from elephants to timid pussy cats, veterinarian Tony Edwards from Wagga Veterinary Hospital is easing into retirement.

- Thirty students from Denmark began the first day of classes at the Riverina Institute of TAFE Wagga campus where they are participating in a unique six-month study program.

- Organist, Peter John Neivandt, put the new organ at St Michaels Cathedral to good use at the Jubilee Mass of Reconciliation.

- Paul Cherry took up the position of secretary-manager at the Wagga Commercial Club.

- Turvey Park halfback flanker, Dale Isaac chalked up his 100th senior game against East Wagga Kooringal at Maher Oval this week.

- Wagga Accountant, David Connell has been successful in a career move into business consulting, a business he operates from his home in Wagga.

- Jan Brill, Elaine Armstrong, Ann Adams and Edwina Whitworth were among those attending a Country Women’s Association Evening branch event to promote Australian Lamb which included guest speaker, Sandra Firth.

- Miss Wagga Entrant, Sally Peacock ran a stall in the Marketplace as part of Palliative Care week.

- Wagga National Party identity, Jim Booth, has been nominated by the National’s Wagga branch for a position in the New South Wales Upper House.
- Well known Wagga shooter and businessman, Barney Rooke died suddenly at St Vincents Hospital in Sydney after a short illness.
- Bunnings property manager, Robyn Richards, confirmed that Bunnings had identified a site for a new store in Wagga which could be operational within 12 months.
- Well known businessman and sporting identity, John Brockhouse was re-elected president of the Riverine Club as were vice presidents Lyndon Taylor and Rob McMeekin. Secretary is Lionel Love, Treasurer Brian Roberts and directors, Graham Burmeister, John Bance, David Mott, Graham Gorrel and John Sheldrick.
- The development application for Wagga’s $10 million home improvement centre has been approved by Wagga City Council.
- A bizarre confession led police to more than $200,000 worth of cannabis being grown in an elaborate set up at a Lake Albert home.
50 Years Ago

- One of Australia’s most experienced fighter pilots, Group Captain C. G. Thomas DFC, AFC, assumed command of the Forest Hill RAAF Base taking over from Air Commodore G. E. Prosser who is retiring from the service.

- Mrs New South Wales, Mrs Sue Griffin of Wagga was congratulated at a Civic Reception in her honour at the City Council Chambers.

- John Whiles and Grant McRae from Central Wagga Apex are pictured presenting a cheque for $100 to Ken McKenzie and Peter Knight representing the Edel Quin Shelter.

- Final contracts were signed by Wagga City Council and Trane Company of Australia Pty Ltd for the purchase of 20 acres of land on Council’s Hammond Avenue industrial estate.

- The Wagga Leagues Club S.O.C.I.A.L. (Slim Off Calorie Intake and Live) Club held its graduation ceremony at the Leagues Club with 165 people attending.

- Deeps Wagga “no ordinary” sale has begun including Men’s Flannelette Shirts for $2.75, large bath towels, $2.50 and King Gee Work Trousers for $7.99.
- New South Wales Premier, Mr Tom Lewis said the State Government had decided to defer construction of natural gas “laterals” to Wagga, Cootamundra, Cowra, Bathurst, Orange and Lithgow.
- Turvey Park halfback Steven Mortimer will spend next week in Sydney as a guest of Canterbury Bankstown who want to sign him to a long contract.
- Positions have been advertised for two parking patrol officers (“Brown Bombers”) at Wagga Police Station who will replace one officer who has resigned and enlarge the staff to three officers.
- Belinda Paul and Jenny Blight of Wagga High School have been selected in the N.S.W. Open Schoolgirls hockey side to play Queensland.
- Mr Wal Spokes, secretary-manager of the Wagga R.S.L. Club said that the 1975 Professional Snooker Championship final, which will include defending champion Eddie Charleton, will be played at the club later this month.
- The Murrumbidgee is expected to peak at Wagga at 28 feet, and it is expected that discharge from Burrinjuck dam will cause the river to remain at a reasonably high level for the next few days.
- Tamworth High School who will meet Mt Austin High School in the University Shield grand final have won the shield 11 times beginning in 1926.
- Twenty people were fined a total of $950 for failure to furnish income tax returns.
- Members of the Sergeants Mess at Forest Hill Air Base raised a total of $700 for the RAAF Women’s Association Education Fund and a competition is currently being run with proceeds going to the Gumleigh Boys Home.
