- Graham Peacock is pictured hugging his daughter Sally Peacock after she was crowned Miss Wagga 2001 at the Victory Memorial gardens.

- Retiring Wagga City Council general manager, Brian Andrews, was given an emotional send-off by Councillors as he attended his final Council meeting after 45 years with Council including 16 in the top posts of town clerk and General manager.

- A keen and enthusiastic crowd was on hand at the Wagga Showgrounds for a football memorabilia auction to raise money for the radiotherapy appeal.

- Year ten student, Shaun Ellis won the St Michael’s High School, Di Maginness Art of Speech competition for the second time, backing up his win from last year.

- South Wagga Public School’s girls’ soccer team finished as joint premiers in the State knockout.

- Warren Smith received the Australian Sports Medal, honouring 30 years he has devoted to cricket in the Riverina.

- The embattled Pauline Hanson’s One Nation Party kept its in-fighting strictly behind doors during a meeting of its State Executive held in Wagga.

- Civic leaders recognised the cities East Timor veterans at a mayoral reception.

- The Murrumbidgee Flour Mill announced it will close in December with 33 employees to be left jobless.

- Andrea Plum and Julie Kluit were among the large crowd attending the Wagga races on Saturday.

- Wagga Christian College had an open day to officially unveil and show off its wetlands project which is under construction.

- The fate of Wagga’s ambulance co-ordination centre was confirmed yesterday with the announcement of November 21 as the final closure date.

- Real Estate agent and north Ashmont resident, Paul Gooden, is leading a campaign to rename the area north of Ashmont Avenue in a bid to escape the apparent stigma attached to living there.

- Wagga Agricultural College celebrated its presentation evening with Lee Perchfold winning the best and fairest, Graham Quade capturing the best back in first grade and captain Greg Condon a representative star last season.

- Wagga Chamber of Commerce and Industry president, Stephen Atkinson said that the possibility of legal claims arising from abuse by employees of Internet and e-mail in the workplace was now well recognised.

- David Yap, a specialist in regional development and Ian Gray from the CSU Centre for Rural Social Research were guest speakers at the third annual General meeting of the Wagga Civic Trust.

- About seventy people from several generations of the Shea family attended a family reunion at the Borambola Sports Centre.

- Popular media personality, Ita Buttrose was the keynote speaker at a Rural Women’s symposium held at Charles Sturt University.

- Widespread rainfalls in the past two weeks have secured predictions of a bumper crop harvest for the 2000-2001 summer season.
50 Years Ago

- Hundreds of sightseers lined the Hampden bridge to view the Murrumbidgee River in full flood as the threat to North Wagga homes mounted.

- A special train is transporting around 1000 passengers each day across the flooded Murrumbidgee River from Wagga to Bomen.

- The Regional Controller of the East West Division of the State Emergency Service, George Brown is pictured with Minister for Police and Services, John Waddy and S.E.S. Chief, Air Vice Marshal Townsend at the Emergency Services headquarters in Wagga.

- Talented young jockey, Des Bowditch did not mind riding in the mud and rain at Wagga races on Saturday when he completed the meeting with a treble.

- Wagga’s assistant Town Planner, Ian Graham and planning assistant Hardip Singh are pictured displaying preliminary plans for the development of two new residential suburbs to house more than 12,000 people at Cartwrights Hill and Glenfield.

- Wagga Magpies secretary, Brian Lawrence is pictured presenting an award to Malcolm Levett, the junior sides best and fairest player.

- Students, Susan Cox, Katrina Grinter, Boyd Kendal, Belinda Safrin and Richard Parnel are pictured planting trees around the Mangoplah Hall as part of golden jubilee celebrations at the Hall.

- Ian Donaldson and Val Hopwood from the Downside Rural Youth Club are pictured presenting a cheque for $100 to Ian Measday, president of the Wagga branch of the Royal Far West Children’s Heath Scheme.

- Mark Gallagher defeated his brother Chris to win the Wagga Squash Club Men’s A grade championship.

- Despite the wet weather, the second Wagga Scout Group expects to raise about $3000 from its bottle drive.

- Huthwaites Food Fair are selling Bingo Custard Powder, 12oz for 34 cents, Heinz canned soups, 15oz for 23 cents and Buttercup Vanilla Ice Cream, two Litre for 63 cents
- Wagga Rotaract members are travelling to Junee for a Zone Rotaract meeting which will be attended by clubs from Temora, Junee, Narrandera, Leeton and Griffith.
- Honorary Staff doctors at Wagga Bose Hospital are not expected to continue treatment of public ward patients because they are dissatisfied with the hospital’s terms of payment under Medibank.
- More than 40 students have enrolled in wine science at the Riverina College of Advanced Education with Mr Brian Croser appointed as a new wine science lecturer at the College.
- Alan Hayes has accepted a one-year contract to become playing coach at Coolamon in the Southwest League next season.
- 1st Wagga Won the Wagga Scouts Annual Athletics Rally attended by more than 500 people at Camp Kurrajong.
