• Wagga City Council has dramatically increased its support for the development of a biotechnology centre of excellence by boosting its financial contribution to a business plan from $6000 to $29000.

• Wagga City Councillors rejected a plan to employ a consultant to help in the appointment of four directors to the Council.

• The four spans for the new Hammond Avenue and Edward Street underpass were placed in position this week.

• Well-known Wagga couple, Arthur and Corrie French, celebrated their 50^th wedding anniversary in the Elizabeth Lounge at the Wagga Leagues Club.

• This week is Legacy Appeal Week in Wagga.

• Farmers in the Wagga area were facing their worst drought crisis since 1944, said member for Wagga and Opposition spokesman for Primary Industries, Joe Schipp.

• Wagga City just scrapped home in a thrilling Rugby Union grand final at the Eric Wessel Oval when Paul Davis landed a penalty goal on the bell to give his side a 7-6 win over Waratahs.

• This week sees the return of Spring, and the Shanty Hotel at Alfredtown is celebrating by reintroducing its Sunday afternoon concerts featuring top local bands.

• Many of Wagga’s leading sporting identities attended the funeral of Mr William Henry (Bill) Williams, aged 58 years, who died in hospital after a short illness.

• Eleven three-bedroom Housing Commission cottages have been made available to Wagga City Council for key employees of the Council’s Meat Processing Plant.

• President of the Wagga Show Society, Mr John Macrae, said he was confident that repair work at Kyeamba Smith Hall would be completed ready for the Wagga Show, which will begin on 30^th September.
