Wagga’s Daily Advertiser on Saturday, 29th March 2014 contains the first of a series of Feature Articles highlighting the role of Wagga Wagga Servicemen in World War 1.
Saturday’s article written by Sherry Morris features Hubert Meagher who was one of the first to enlist in Wagga Wagga.
Before the war Meagher had worked for several years as an accountant for Messrs T Edmondson and Co, merchants of Gurwood street before acquiring the Central Fruit and Refreshment Cafe, on Fitzmaurice Street in the heart of the business centre.
He was a member of various Clubs and Societies and in 1912 married into an influential local family, the McDonoughs.
Hubert Meagher was killed in action at Gallipoli on 6th August 1915.
