  • Brian Favero and Keith Williams from Wagga, Bernard Hart from Old Junee and former Wagga police sergeant, Terry O’Connell are among twenty current and former Riverina residents recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
  • Heather Wall, Darren Coggan, Chelsea Knight and Phoebe Pinnock were among those performing in “The Show of Shows”, a musical tribute to John Rosengren who contributed to Wagga’s music scene for many years.
  • Members of the Riverina Woodworkers Club, Ewan McArthur, Mac Knight, Larry Sloan and Keith Gates are pictured presenting a new lectern, made by club members, to Wagga Mayor, Kevin Wales.
  • Stephen Lakner, Ian Whiticker, Marg McArthur, Doreen Whiticker and Helen Pinnock were among those getting together for a Lakner’s Hairdressing Salon reunion.
  • CSU, cheesemaker, Barry Lillywhite, launched two new cheese varieties, Lemon Myrtle and Pepper Leaf at Knights Meats next to the Hampden Bridge.
  • Rotary District 9700 raffled a $15,000 Sydney Olympics package, donated by AMP which raised funds for the Riverina Cancer Care Centre Appeal.
  • Brothers Reg and Ray Jenkins have closed their timber and joinery business in Wagga which has operated successfully for 74 years.
  • Joyce Angel, Ida Cheney, Jean Dean, Joyce Deisel and Norma McKay are pictured at the 30th birthday celebrations for the Wagga Leagues Club Slimmers.
  • A team from Wagga’s St Michael’s Regional High School has finished runner-up in the NSW Combined Catholic Colleges Hockey Championships in Tamworth.
  • Haven resident, Flo Kain is pictured celebrating her 90th birthday with her daughter, Judy Cox and son, Pat Kain.
  • The Daily Advertiser’s most popular cartoon series Rip Kirby first published in May 1962 has come to completion with a final instalment.
  • Riverine Club president, John Brockhouse and his wife Di are pictured in the Club’s main bar as part of a Daily Advertiser Weekender feature on the club.
  • Business is growing strongly for South Wagga Bakery owners, Frances and Brian Booth and Lorraine and Brian Richter who took over the business six months ago.
  • NRMA regional manager, Ivan Roberts presented Wagga’s Mayor, Kevin Wales with  a certificate of merit recognising Council’s efforts in cleaning up motor vehicle waste at Silvalite Creek.
  • The Australian Geography Competition 2000 attracted 82 geography students from Mount Erin High School.
  • New work for the dole projects which will employ up to 30 unemployed local people are expected to begin shortly.

  • Wagga Apex Club members, including David Kennedy, Ian Henderson, Bruce Kay and Bernie Dempsey painted the Turvey Park Guide Hall in Sunshine Avenue.
  • The Wagga Senior Marching Girls are on a recruiting campaign with members including Mrs Cheryl Speers, Miss Louise Porters, Mrs Dianne Francis and Mrs Juanita Stefanowicz pictured in the Daily Advertiser.
  • ANZ Bank staff from Melbourne and Sydney joined fellow staff members from southern N.S.W. in Wagga for various sporting competitions over the long weekend.
  • Keen Turvey Park supporter, Narelle Reed, has been chosen as this weeks Miss Rugby League.
  • Nixon’s Engineering, on the Old Narrandera Road, are advertising their specialised transport equipment and conversions.
  • Julie Mack, secretary of the Downside Rural Youth Club has won a two-week trip to Victoria in a Southern Riverina Regional competition which tests rural youth knowledge, current affairs and local knowledge.
  • The “Corryong Accordion Band” is playing at this weeks Old Time Dance held at the Riverina Australian Rules Club.
  • Tom and Audrey Read were two of the eight person’s who became Australians in a naturalisation ceremony at the Wagga City Council Chambers.
  • Mrs Martha Terlich of Brookong Avenue and formerly of the Rock celebrated her 90th birthday at the Lutheran Hall and is pictured with her sons, Richard and Eric.
  • Huthwaites are advertising Meadow Lea Table margarine 1Ib for 63 cents, Letona fruit juice, 1½ pints for 32 cents and Nescafe instant coffee 2oz for 49 cents.
  • Three former Wagga City Aldermen, Mrs Erolla Heard, Mr Bob Harris and Mr Aub Loch with 52 years’ service between them were presented with distinguished service certificates by the N.S.W. Local Government Association.
  • Four holiday makers have died on Riverina roads over the weekend, and six others hospitalised.
  • The Wagga City Rugby Union Club celebrated its 25th Anniversary at the Imperial Hotel.
  • Two juveniles have been charged with six counts of stealing coin containers from telephone boxes.
  • Roy Jessup fired 75 off the stick to win the Bagley trophy in the monthly medal competition at Wagga City Golf Club.
  • Fourteen workers on the construction site of Wagga’s abattoir complex at Bomen have been dismissed believed to be because they took part in a stop work meeting at the site.
  • Wagga’s new Wagga City Council Social Worker, Mr Jeffrey Marjoram takes up his duties next week.
