- Jean Pottie, a former Wagga Citizen of the Year, was awarded an OAM for her service to the local community of Tarcutta and tennis great Tony Roche, who was born in Wagga, was honoured for his services to tennis with an AO in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

- Jenny Atkinson, Dr Allan Cotterill and Dr Joe McGirr were among the speakers at the launch of the Greater Murray Area Health Service’s (GMAHS) methadone and detoxification services for intravenous drug users.

- Glen Elliott was elected President of the Wagga Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

- Tolland Public School’s Ben Mavor was crowned the 12-year champion at the Wagga PSSA athletics carnival.

- Michael O’Reilly and Gissing’s Marketplace Pharmacies are offering lung function testing in conjunction with Charles Sturt University, School of Biomedical Sciences.

- Tyler Pomeroy, Joshua Harper and Eston Shaw are pictured with their trophies earned at the NSW gymnastics championships held in Sydney last weekend.

- Willans Hill School students were taken on a QantasLink flight over Wagga.

- Cathy Keating and Andrew Donelan were among about 70 former students attending a class of 1980 Trinity Senior High reunion at the Murrumbidgee Turf Club Gazebo Bar.

- Wagga City Council Environmental Services Director, John Craig, is pictured with his wife, Anne and mother, Maisie, celebrating his 50th birthday at the Wagga Civic Theatre upstairs foyer and balcony.

- Popular Wagga Tiger and real estate agent, Paul Irvine, will chalk up his 200th senior game against Leeton-Whitton in the Riverina Football League this week.

- Following a particularly dry May, the rain that fell across the region this week put a smile on the faces of many farmers.
- A specialist drug counsellor has finally been employed at Wagga as part of the NSW Government’s $176 million Act Now drug strategy.
- Greyhound coaches will cease providing direct services through Wagga later this month.
- The Gannon Group have been approved to build another 20 self-contained units at the Riverina Gums retirement estate at a cost of $1.6 million.
- Southern Oil Refineries Pty Ltd’s state-of-the-art $16 Million used lube oil refining plant at Bomen is expected to start operations next month.

- A 1906 N.S.W. forecar was voted the most popular entry in the Wagga Veteran and Vintage Car Club’s Annual June Rally.

- Wagga Pro Musica has arranged for the first-ever Wagga visit of the Australian Chamber Orchestra.

- Five residents of The Haven, Tom Husband, Violet Linsell, Martha Terlich, Ida Hoffman, and Mabel Lewis, whose combined ages are 435, celebrated their June birthdays together.

- The Medical Superintendent of the Wagga Base Hospital, Dr Robert Fleming, is pictured showing Hospital Chief Executive Officer, Horrie Rex and RSL Club representatives Allan Edmonds and Noel Craig a $1500 heart monitoring machine. The club has presented the hospital with $300 towards the cost of a similar machine for the outpatients and casualty section of the hospital.

- Otto Sievert’s “Interior Inspirations” in the Romano’s Building is celebrating its second birthday with 15% of the normal retail price of all goods on hand.

- Mr Griff Kenny, Country Visits Officer of the Repatriation Department, will be visiting Wagga on 21st, 22nd and 23rd June. Hospital and home visits may be arranged.

- Mrs Barbara Hastie won the Country Club Associates Championship.

- Darryl Elsley has been named one of National Mutual’s “Top Twenty” Team, which comprises representatives from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the United Kingdom.
- Wagga supplies of anti-flu vaccine are totally inadequate, with Peter Gissing, president of the Riverina Zone of the Pharmacy Guild, indicating that every Wagga Pharmacy has at least 100 prescriptions for vaccine waiting to be filled.
- The Wagga District branch of the Riding for the Disabled Association of NSW has adopted a formal constitution and elected office bearers with President, Anne Willsallen and Vice-Presidents, Colin Davis and Jeanette Newbound.
- Spokesman, Keith Lugton, said that the Central Wagga Apex Monster Fair at the Civic Gardens was a success, attracting 3000 visitors and raising an estimated $1000 for three charities.
- Mr Bill Hurd has been appointed as the Chairman of this year’s Austcare Appeal in Wagga.
- A reunion of the McKenzie Clan was held. to commemorate the marriage of Alexander and Annie Margaret McKenzie of “Waterview”, Wallacetown, which took place in 1876 at St John’s Church, Gundagai.
- Representatives of the three schools on Lake Albert Road are investigating ways of alleviating dangers to children caused by the heavy flow of traffic on that road.
- Yanco Agricultural College has arranged a short course on record keeping and accounting for farmers’ wives.
- A special seminar on Speech therapy, to be held in the Wagga Council Chambers, is being organised by the Riverina Council for Social Development.
- There are 1,558 unemployed people in Wagga and 90 unfilled vacancies.
