- A farewell dinner was held for former Charles Sturt University deputy vice-chancellor, Dr Kath Bowmer, who has taken up the post of chief research scientist for CSIRO Land and Water, based in Wagga.

- Chairman of the Wagga Tidy Towns Committee, Bob Williams, said rubbish collected during the annual Clean Up Australia Day appeared similar to last year, when around three tonnes of rubbish was collected across the city.

- Rotary District Governor, Ray King, was at Wagga Airport to welcome members of a Rotary group study exchange team from Orange County, California.

- Teacher, June Blake, was farewelled after fourteen years at the Kapooka Public School.

- Dick and Peg Evans celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary.

- Amanda Wheeler was selected for the Australian softball team to play in the trans-Tasman challenge later this month.

- Shane McMullen was appointed recently as the new Chief Executive Officer at The Haven.

- The Wagga Show Society is planning a million-dollar facelift for Kyeamba Smith Hall in four stages over five years.

- International Women’s Day is being marked by a walk on Willans Hill, led by Riverina Institute of TAFE director, Rosemary Campbell, campus manager, Pam Green and teacher consultant for students who are deaf or hearing impaired, Lee Maddison.

- Former rugby league star Steve Mortimer will be a special guest at the Asthma New South Wales 12th Regional Conference to be held in Wagga later this month.

- The oldest resident at The Haven’s Fred Loudon Lodge, 91-year-old Mary O’Donovan, is pictured celebrating the 10th anniversary of the opening of the dementia units with The Haven’s board of directors’ chairman, John Mueller.

- Pupils from the Yvonne O’Connor School of Dance, Georgia McCormack, Grace Griffin, Ashlee Kimball, Rebessa Driscol, Kirsty Fromholtz, Jessica Fromholtz, Tiffany Turner, Melissa Black and Alysha Bowditch will be dancing at this weekend’s St Andrew’s Fete.
- Wagga Mayor, Kevin Wales, said that the Country Mayors Association has joined a campaign to prevent any attempt to relocate regional airlines out of Kingsford Smith Airport.
- A security guard has been positioned at the new skatepark at Bolton Park to prevent enthusiasts from early use of the facility, which is in its final stage of construction.
- Wagga Marketplace Shopping Centre is celebrating its fourth birthday.
50 Years Ago

- With the northern lane of the Hampden Bridge closed due to a crack in the main truss of the bridge, negotiating the crossing is becoming a headache for many motorists.

- The Member for Farrer, Mr Wal Fife, cut the ribbon to open the Riverine Cottage, a residential hostel for crippled children in Halloran Street.

- A former waitress, Carol McMahon, has been appointed in Wagga as the first female parking patrol officer in the Riverina.

- Mrs Dawn Smith and Mrs Elvie Jelbart are pictured attending the C.W.A. Riverina Zone Handicraft Day at the North Wagga Football Club.

- Fifteen years of service was rewarded when Doug Phipps, former headmaster at Mount Austin Primary school, was presented with a silver candelabra by members of the P. and C., including Mr J Wright, Mrs D Mulqueeney and Mrs N Newton.

- Captains at Trinity High School this year are Patrizia Boetto and Luke Gerhard, and vice-captains, Joanne Hurley and Edward Hribar.

- Wagga hunter, Bert Winnel, is pictured preparing for the 1976 duck shooting season, which begins this Saturday.

- Wagga garbage collectors voted unanimously to change the collection start time from 3 am to 7 pm.

- The Regional Office of the Sport and Recreation Service of N.S.W. has arranged for the Australian Director of Table Tennis Coaching, Mr Eric Coster, to conduct a “Coaching of Coaches” course in Wagga, Albury and Griffith.

- Club President, Stan Sadlier, said that the Wagga R.S.L. Club made a record trading profit for last year of $190,075.78.

- Alan Pearson of Wagga Rotary presented a cheque for $150 to help pay for a three-day trip members of the Wagga Senior Citizens Association took last week to Victoria.

- Ken Warby, the Australian record water speed champion, broke his own record by 11 miles per hour for an average of 177 miles per hour over a measured kilometre at Lake Blowering.

- Roger Gregory and Barry Dixon from Central Wagga Apex presented new blankets to Edel Quinn Shelter manager, Doug Beer and Shelter administrative officer, Geraldine Moloney.
- Mr Herb McPherson, M.L.C., accused the Minister for Mines and Energy, Mr George Freudenstein, of “outright impertinence and a disregard for local government representatives” when accusing Wagga’s Mayor and one of the city’s senior officers of plainly annoying people regarding the natural gas issue in Wagga.
- About 40 clubs have been invited to a meeting in the City Council Chambers to discuss the possibility of holding a co-operative craft bazaar in the city.
- Leading professional runners from Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria have entered Wagga Apex and Leagues Club’s runners and footballers’ carnival at Eric Weissel Oval next Sunday.
