- Presentation Sisters, Kaye Bryan and Carmel Wallis, are displaying plans to turn the Mount Erin grounds into an energy-efficient education centre for the Riverina.

- Darryl Brooks has been named Riverina Institute of TAFE’s Apprentice of the Year in carpentry and joinery.

- Wagga Mayor, Kevin Wales, Riverina Christian Radio chairman, Peter Andersen, Director, Paul Willis and St Andrews Presbyterian Church minister, Reverend Derek Bullen, are pictured at the launch of Wagga’s LIFE FM radio station.

- A portrait of Field Marshall Thomas Blamey, presented to the city by the Army Recruit Training Base, Kapooka, was officially hung in the Civic Centre council meeting room.

- Bianca Watson, Pat Nolan and Diane Lloyd are pictured, toasting the success of the Kurrajong Waratah Medieval Ball at the Kyeamba Smith Hall.

- More than 100 people sampled the best food and wine the region has to offer at the annual FreightCorp – Riverina Food Group Golden Plate Awards, held at the Charles Sturt University Convention Centre.

- Wagga Country Music Club representatives, Don Tuckwell, Darryl Forbes-Taber and Alan Evans are pictured presenting a cheque for $2000 to Pam Rawle and Christine Bishop for the Children’s Ward Appeal.

- Incoming president Marilyn Walter took over from outgoing president Peter Perkins at the Sunrise Rotary changeover dinner, attended by 76 people at the Garden Court Restaurant.

- Matthew Cullen, 7, of Currawarna Primary School, accepted the Tidy School’s Competition plaque on behalf of his school from one of the judges, Jack Mullins.

- Harry Hendriks from Commins Hendriks solicitors announced his retirement after practising law in Wagga for more than 37 years.

- Incoming President, Greg Smith, took over from outgoing President John Flarrety at the South Wagga Lions Changeover dinner, held at the Wagga Commercial Club.

- Labor candidate for Riverina, Andrew Albiston, is pictured with Greg Robinson and Trevor Urquhart at a barbecue held at Col McPherson’s property.

- Jane Muller, Kate Gilmour, Derek Lewington, Kimberly Mackenzie and Susan Courtney were among those attending the inaugural Colts and Fillies club meeting at the Murrumbidgee Turf Club.

- Senior partner Graham Burmeister announced the appointment of Tacita Rolfe as a partner in the firm, Farrell Lusher, adding that he believed that this would be the first time a woman had become a partner in a Wagga legal firm.
- Willans Hill is now home to thousands of new trees and shrubs following a Green Corps working bee, aimed at helping the fight against salinity.
50 Years Ago

- A huge crowd gathered in the Red Cross Hall to pay tribute to Mrs Doreen Hutchinson, who was awarded the B.E.M. in the Queen’s Birthday honours.

- Tony Quinlivan is the president of the Wagga Auxiliary of the Asthma Foundation launched in Wagga on Friday night.

- Mary Ryder interviewed Tammy Fraser this week on her 2WG program, sponsored by Huthwaites, each Monday at 2.30 pm.

- Two stolen cars and a trailer were recovered from the Murrumbidgee River, after being exposed by the current low level of the river.

- The new $4000 American Conn organ, which was recently installed in St Michael’s Cathedral, was blessed by Fr Gerald Iverson and a demonstration recital was then given by Graham Stocks.

- The world’s fastest quarter-mile machine, the Wynn’s “Courage of Australia, will be on display at Wagga Motors next week.

- More than 700 guests attended the recent Wagga Masonic Ball, with 41 debutants presented to Very Worshipful Bro. Fred Helliwell.

- Members of the Miss Wagga Committee, including Margaret Skinner, Val Samuelson, Jan MacRae and Brian Duignan, welcomed prospective entrants in the Miss Wagga 1976-77 Quest to a cocktail party at the Riverine Club.

- Arthur Nixon, representing the board of Wagga Base Hospital, accepted a cheque for $5360 from Mrs Olive Smith, who is also retiring as Hospital Auxiliary treasurer after 37 years.

- Wagga dentist, Joe Mason-Cox, was awarded a Master of Dental Surgery Degree from the University of Sydney.

- The RSPCA is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of scores of sheep at the rear of the Wagga saleyards this week.

- Mr Dud Cheney, vice-chairman of the Wagga Base Hospital Board, accepted a cheque for $900 from the South Wagga Rotary Club, which will be used to provide equipment for the hospital’s district nursing service.

- Mr Scott Ridoutt has been appointed secretary-manager of the Riverina Australian Rules Football Club.

- Wagga City Council signed contracts with the Buckman Building Group for extensions to the Wagga City Council administration building complex, costing about $380,000.

- Mount Austin High School won their way into the semifinals of the State C.H.S. girls’ softball by defeating Broken Hill 14-6 and Queanbeyan 12-8 at French’s Field this week.
- Some 300 guests are expected to attend a dinner organised by the Wagga branch of the Liberal Party, in recognition of the eighteen years of service in State Parliament of Wal Fife, who is now Federal Member for Farrer.
