- Leagues Club president, Brian Lawrence, said that the Club has enlisted an internationally renowned accounting and consultancy firm to investigate the Club’s immediate and long-term future.

- Thieves have soured what was shaping up to be a good first year for Greg and Christine Bannon in their new business, Murrumbidgee Eco Experience, with their headquarters being raided for the third time in less than three weeks.

- Mayor Kevin Wales handed a letter of goodwill from the people of Wagga to Ray Stenhouse before he set out cycling from Wagga to Canberra as part of the Centenary of Federation bike ride.

- Danny Beasley, winner of the Wagga Gold Cup, riding Regal Touch, is pictured being congratulated by his parents, Bob and Judy Beasley.

- Ian Payne, Dianne Fielding, Graeme Buchan, Geoff Marks, and member for Riverina, Kay Hull, are pictured taking part in the local leg of the Links in the Chain Federation Bike Ride in Wagga.

- A farewell bash was held at Jonny Mac’s for Ron Finemore, who is leaving his firm soon, after its merger with Toll Holdings is complete.

- More than 500 mourners attended the funeral of one of its longest-serving educators, Richard Thomas (Dick) Mead, who died at the age of 56 after a battle with cancer.

- Ladysmith dairy farmer, Sid Clarke, is pictured addressing a meeting held at the Wagga RSL Club on the local impacts caused by deregulation of the dairy industry.

- The Kurrajong-Waratah Fair is being held at the Kyeamba Smith Hall with support from local service and community groups, including Sunrise Rotary, CWA Riverina Group and South Wagga Lions Club.

- Soldier for a Crisis – Field Marshall Sir Thomas Blamey, an exhibition created by the Australian War Memorial to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the death of Blamey, will premiere this week at the Museum of the Riverina.

- Di Van Delft, Anne Fealy and Dorothy Mulqueeney are pictured as winners of the Country Women’s Association wool window display competition.

- Chris Fox, Wendy Gilbert, Sandra Lewington, Margaret Harris, Robyn Willis, Ray Rootes, Helen Batholomew, Robin Millington, Pauline Harvey, Geoff Marks, Wayne Roose, Gayle Hull, Carolyn Black and Allan Hull are pictured preparing for the Grand Irish Concert to be held at the Wagga Leagues Club.
- Tim Fischer, the retiring Federal Member for Farrer, was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Charles Sturt University in Albury.
- Some 1000 people attended the official opening of the Wagga Netball Centre last Saturday.

- Rolly Raulston, 79, was just 13 years old when he began in the boot-making trade, which he still enjoys at the Hampden Bridge end of Fitzmaurice Street.

- Doreen Lonsdale, Mary Ryder and Kath Butler are pictured at Huthwaites Kooringal Winter fashion parade.

- Eighteen debutantes were presented to the Ball Matron, Mrs Nancy Jenkins, at the recent Scottish Ball held at the Police Citizens Boys’ Club.

- Wes Russell’s Real Estate is advertising that he wants homes in the $20,000 to $30,000 bracket in any area for genuine buyers.

- Workers have been reinforcing the vital levee banks near the Hampden Bridge.

- Gary Rapmund and Roger Day are competing with 100 or so other drivers in the annual Snowy Mountains car rally, which starts at 8 pm from Talbingo and continues through the night over some of the roughest, most inhospitable country in the Snowy Mountains.

- Local Scouts and leaders raised $411 to help send Australian athletes to the Montreal Olympic Games.

- Huthwaites (Machinery) is celebrating 50 years of association with Massey-Ferguson farm machinery manufacturers.
- In a daylight-saving referendum held in conjunction with the recent State Government election, 11,806 Wagga voters said “Yes,” a majority of 994, against “No” voters with 10,812.
- Chairman of the Murrumbidgee Turf Club, Mr Colin Lamont, said that this year’s three-day Wagga Gold Cup meeting proved so popular that it would be carried on next year.
- Bill Collins of the Riverina Hotel scored the maximum 180 while playing against Palm and Pawn in the Wagga Darts winter competition.
- District Scout Leader, Mr Lindsay Hamill, representing Sir John Kerr, Chief Scout of Australia, presented the Scout Association Award for Good Services to Peter Hains, Group Leader of the Second Wagga Group.
- Wagga Women’s Hockey Association has 24 players attending a schoolgirls’ coaching camp in Sydney this week and next.
- More than $1000 has been raised in the Wagga district towards the Italian earthquake disaster appeal.
- An enjoyable afternoon was held at the C.W.A. house in Wagga when the Mayoress, Shirley Gorman, spoke about her trip to the United States.
- More than 100 people attended a public farewell at the Wagga City Golf Club to farewell policemen, Sergeant Neville Tamlyn and Senior Constable Alex Irwin, who have both been transferred to Sydney.
