DavisCup [CSURA RW1574.467, Lennon Collection

The Davis Cup came to Wagga and was displayed during the NSW Hardcourt Championships held in Wagga over four days from 15th March 1956. During the four day event, we were treated to a world-class display of tennis from players such as Ken Rosewall, Neale Fraser, Mervyn Rose, Don Candy, Mary Carter, and Beryl Penrose. The prestigious Davis Cup, crafted in 1900, had been bought to Wagga from Sydney on an Ansett plane. It was carefully guarded while on display at the Championships and each night was locked in a vault at the ANZ Bank for safekeeping. (CSURA RW1574.467, Lennon Collection)
