- Wagga Vietnam veterans, Col Gentry-Pike and Dave Gardiner, are pictured at Wagga’s War Memorial, looking forward to Anzac Day and reuniting with mates.

- Surviving members of HMAS Wagga were presented with the freedom of the city by Mayor Kevin Wales at a mayoral reception held in their honour.

- Peter Condon, Peter Rapmund and Keith Spokes were among those enjoying a quiet drink of traditional rum and milk at the annual Anzac Day Breakfast.

- President of the Wagga Returned and Services League sub-branch, David Callow, said the public support at the various Anzac Day ceremonies had exceeded expectations.

- Eastern Airlines, which flew into Wagga for the first time on March 19, is upgrading its Dash 8 fleet with an extensive interior refurbishment program.

- Miss Wagga entrants, Natasha O’Keefe, Angela Chapman, Elana Post, Melissa Young and Melanie Fitzsimmons are pictured wishing each other luck at the official launch of the 2002 Miss Wagga Quest.

- Sue Edwards, Lindy Walker, Peter Billing, Anne Goldsmith and Val Weldon were among those presented with certificates by Wagga City Council for their efforts to conserve and restore their Wagga businesses.

- Wagga schoolgirl, Jackie Murphy, has been selected in the national under-17 netball talent identification squad, after a series of impressive performances for NSW at the National Netball Championships.

- Junee Mayor, Lola Cummins, is pictured standing in front of the Federation Pathway, which was opened this week to commemorate the centenary of Federation and Junee’s history over the last century.

- Town House International manager, Stephen Fitzgerald, will leave Australia soon to seek his fortune in American show business.

- Geoff Hamilton and Carl Cooper are pictured working as volunteers at the South Wagga Public School canteen.

- Campbells of Oura has begun work on restoration works along the Hampden Bridge’s walkway.

- Scott Oehm, the dealer principal of Jupiter Motors, in Edward Street, is ropable after vandals caused an estimated $5000 damage to three vehicles in his lot this week.

- Wagga Croquet Club held a free Come and Try day at their grounds in Fitzhardinge Street.
- Minister for Community Services, Faye Lo Po, promised an investigation into how a five-month-old girl came to be left in a Wagga childcare centre after staff had locked up and gone home.
50 Years Ago

- A crowd of 8000 watched Wagga’s Anzac Day March in Baylis Street.

- John and Dorothy Denny, Mayor and Mayoress of Leavenworth, Kansas, are visiting Wagga and were greeted by Wagga’s Mayoress, Shirley Gorman, at Wagga Airport.

- Kooringal Stores in Lake Albert Road, owned by Ross Deaner, was badly damaged by fire, and it is expected to take one or two months to be fully operational again.

- Jenny Herbert is pictured being congratulated by Mayor Ald Dick Gorman and special guest Sonia McMahon after winning the 1976 Golden Gown Award.

- Police Boys Club junior, Anthony Campbell, won 14 consecutive singles matches in the Wagga Table Tennis Competition.

- 5000 spectators attended a two-day meeting of the Wagga Model Aero Club held in the Riverina Australian Football Club grounds. Winner of the Merv Howard trophy for the top model was Ray Botton with a Tiger Moth model.

- Jenny Lennon, 13, is pictured all dressed up for Saturday’s fete at the Wagga Historical Museum. The fete commemorated the ninth anniversary of the official opening of the museum.

- Australian Test opening batsman, Alan Turner, is returning for the annual presentation dinner of the Wagga Leagues Club Cricket Club.

- Karenne Rumble and Lynne Jackson have entered the Miss Personality Quest organised by the Lions Clubs of NSW in conjunction with the Save Sight Foundation.

- Mr Ted Doyle, principal of South Wagga Public School, who is retiring after 20 years at the school, was given a farewell dinner.


- Sitting Member for Wagga, Joe Schipp and Wagga Mayor, Ald Dick Gorman, are amongst candidates standing for election to the NSW State Parliament.

- RVN-2 Station Manager, Richard Gray, is advertising a vacancy for a male Production Trainee aged 17 to 19.

- Wagga Pro Musica is holding the second of two special non-subscription concerts at St John’s Anglican Church to mark the church’s Centenary Year.

- Outgoing president, Maurice Beatton, handed over to incoming president Peter Kohn at the Legacy Handover Dinner held at the RSL Club.

- Frances Mackay and Debbie Watson are pictured ready to perform a time-honoured Scottish dance in the St Andrew’s 39th Junior Eisteddfod.
- Chamber of Commerce president Graham Irons said that the Chamber was unable to recommend the closure of its members’ businesses to coincide with the Wagga Centenary Gold Cup to be held next week.
- Road accidents claimed the lives of four people in separate accidents in the Riverina and Southern NSW over the ANZAC weekend.
- Wagga Kennel Club members carried off several top awards at the recent Sydney Royal Show.
